Evie's Awesomeness Goes Global: My Journey with PPMD Italy

Recently, I had the extraordinary privilege of speaking at the Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD) Italy conference in Rome! Standing on that stage, surrounded by warmth, enthusiasm, and a deep sense of community, I experienced something profoundly moving: my words and Evie’s story-translated into Italian for the first time.

It was incredibly emotional seeing my work presented in another language. As I watched Evie’s image appear on the screen, framed by Italian words, my heart swelled. It felt as if a new chapter was unfolding, as Evie’s awesomeness reached across cultures and continents, touching hearts in a way that transcended language.

In preparing for the conference, I wondered whether the nuances of compassion and respect in healthcare communication, so central to my work, would resonate through translation. Would the humour land? Would the warmth translate?

Evie’s story, so powerful and central to my journey, echoed powerfully with the audience. Watching faces light up, seeing nods of recognition and tears of understanding, reminded me how stories unite us, no matter where we come from or which language we speak.
